What are Social Networking Websites and Online Communities?

Essentially they are both the same. Just a couple of years ago, some people may have divided them into the two categories mainly from the way they operated.

Social Networking Websites tend to be dominated by free to sign up sites that are hosted by huge corporations, e.g. Facebook, My Space, and even You Tube has become just such a mega-site via video stories and commentaries.

Online Communities tended to be websites with special content that people would pay for. For example you will find courses, specialty memberships, paid membership sites, events and anything else you care to name these days. But lately, there have been websites that have really become free membership sites and are really mini Social Media sites like Myspace or YouTube websites. Thus the roles and the terms have become somewhat blurred and used interchangeably.

This Blog site is thus to allow anyone report their favourite Online Community or Social Networking website.
