Jumping Over My Fence
That’s a tall order - literally. From my “vantage” point somewhere about a meter below the top of the fence, I watched as a black squirrel deftly scrambled along the wooden fence and scampered up a tree with his new born prize - a piece of fruit it dug out of the ground.

Right now, all I can do is hold onto the fence post and haul myself up to try to peek over the neighbour’s yard to continue watching that little rascal’s antics. Yes, it’s such a bold little rascal. It had just taken that morsel only about a meter from my wheelchair. And now staring at me from his low perch and gobbling up his little stash.
It livened up my morning and I was amazed I had forgotten the pain in my legs as I sat myself down rather gingerly. I smiled as I bathed in the warm sun and light breeze of these last days of Summer. The sound of the waterfall from my pond was so soothing…
There was a loud screech and yowl over where the squirrel was. I noticed a feral cat had climbed onto the tree and had cornered a little black patch of fur. That little guy was about to become lunch himself!
Somehow, I gathered enough strength to grasp the top of the fence and sprang right over it. Oh Yes! I made over the fence. In elation I whooped it up and scared the living daylights out of both predator and prey. They scrambled in their seperate ways because of this new intruder…
Taking a deep breath, I opened my eyes and here was this bold little rascal on my lap staring intently at my eyes as I awoke with a start. But it was good to feel so alive again.
